Latest Bankruptcy News
Many reports of recent bankruptcy filing numbers have indicated that there is an overall decline in the number of filings around the nation. While this comes as good news and a positive indicator that the economy may be starting to show some mercy on citizens, they also point to some interesting patterns.
Our law firm took a closer look into the bankruptcy statistics over the last ten years and found some very interesting facts. In the last ten years, filing trends have varied from steady and consistent to sharp spikes and dips. So what happened?
We organized these trends into a graphical display that highlighted several contributing factors. The data suggest that there were consistent filing patterns in both Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 filings until bankruptcy laws were changed in 2005. After the change in laws, a significant drop in filings was observed and a slow reemergence of filings soon followed. However, an accelerated pattern of filing was observed in recent years after the financial crisis and economic downturn hit in 2008.
What Clients Are Saying
I have not been able to see my way clearly in a long time. My dad passed away in 1996 and my mom died in 2009,I about choked. Not that they were providing financial support, but that I was supporting whatever they wanted or needed. When each of them took ill, I provided whatever I could do to ensure they were happy, including care and any of the “things” they may have desired during their fight with cancer.
Thank you for a FRESH START! The thought of bankruptcy did not occur until I asked my heavenly Father for help, instead of trying to fight the battle alone. The battle is not mine, but it belongs to the Lord. He is the source of my strength and He placed you in my path to see me through.
I cannot extend enough gratitude to you and your staff for a smoothly run process. Thank You! --Daneen H.

That’s why I started a new program to help our clients with the costs.

Money Management Tips
It is a New Year, which means it’s time for new financial goals. To start off on the right foot towards financial freedom, it is important to first develop a plan.
Start by outlining your monthly budget and write down all of your expenses. Research has shown that people who put pen to paper each month are more likely to follow their budget and not overspend. Next, identify at least one debt or line of credit you want to pay off by the end of the year. Be sure to include this payment in your monthly budget.
Also, pick out at least one month per quarter, that is a total of four months in the year, that you vow to freeze all extraneous spending. This means no more Starbucks or buying that extra shirt on sale for that entire month. Make a commitment to putting the money you save from your spending freeze into a savings account. By the year’s end you will be pleased with the progress you can make by following these few simple tips.
