When you are looking for a bankruptcy attorney to help you get some financial relief, there are a few things to look for. You should be able to feel comfortable around your lawyer. Don’t be intimidated. Remember, you are hiring them to perform a service for you. Check to see if you will be able to get along with your attorney. Sometimes personalities aren’t compatible, and you may find yourself unable to work with a particular lawyer. Ask to speak with the attorney to ask a few questions. Did you get clear answers? If not, check around for another attorney.
Meeting
When you find an attorney you like, ask if you can have a meeting with the lawyer. Some lawyers will want you to bring your taxes and credit reports, and some will want you to just come in and discuss what your needs are. You may even receive a questionnaire before you meet with your attorney so they can get a better understanding of how to help you.
Your goal of the meeting is to find out what action the lawyer recommends you take. What chapter of bankruptcy will serve you best and how much it will cost. If you disagree with the lawyer, speak up so you can discuss other options that may be available.
