A young woman has decided to take her student loan debt by the horns and has come up with an innovative way to help her pursue her career passion. Where did she turn? The internet.
Crowdfunding
After racking up thousands to pursue a philosophy major at Christendom College, Mary Beth Baker is now making arrangements to enter Dominican Sister of St. Cecelia convent in Nashville, Tennessee, but her entry comes with a contingency. The convent cannot grant her entry until she is rid of her debt. The reason is partially that of logistics, meaning she won’t be able to afford to pay the debt on a nuns wages, and also one of philosophy, meaning her vows will bind her to a life of poverty.
In her quest to become a devout nun Baker has turned to the internet for help with repaying her student loan debts. Using the web platform called crowdfunding Mary Beth created a page to raise money to pay off her debt. With the help of her social media account to spread the word about the crowdfunding campaign has raised close to half of her the money needed to meet her goal.
